NONSTOP
MEXICO à JAMAICA - Set for a Cinco de
Mayo release, Ozomatli's latest recording is an album of classic and
contemporary Mexican hits reimagined with a Jamaican feel. Titled “Nonstop
Mexico to Jamaica,” it pays homage to the music that many of the band
members grew up listening to, inspiring them to reconnect and reinterpret songs
that defined their youth.
Produced
by reggae legends Sly & Robbie and featuring a star-studded lineup of
guest artists including Juanes, Slightly
Stoopid, Regulo
Caro, Gaby
Moreno, Chali
2na, G.
Love, and Herb
Alpert, Non-Stop pays homage to some of Latino music’s greatest legends. As
Ozomatli percussionist and MC Justin “El Niño” Porée says, “Anyone who is eight
or 80 will recognize “Sabor a Mi” or “Besame
Mucho,” and with these new renditions by Ozomatli, these classics become
reborn, allowing a whole new generation to sing, dance, and keep the legend
alive.
Ozomatli takes firm
stances on various social justice issues: giving a voice to Latino culture,
opportunity to children, fighting for workers’ rights, and promoting global
unity and peace amongst people, cultures and nations.
